We bought this spacious three bedroom house in January 2017, and gave it a new bathroom and kitchen, all new soft furnishings, mattresses, bedding, and electric appliances. What we didn’t replace, we refreshed, repaired or repainted, and we filled the house with works from local artists.
We wanted Lochanbar to be our true second home, and we want our guests to feel it’s theirs too, for however long they choose to stay.
We come to the Bunya Mountains for the peace, for the animals, and the views. We have resident wallabies, very cheeky parrots, and other birds and wildlife who invade the deck and verandah, and a half acre of space where we can just breathe when we leave the city.
Wild and beautiful though it is up here, don’t think you have to live rough. We have a beautiful restaurant, two great cafés, and a little shop that does takeaway food (it also includes a bottle shop). The food up here is fabulous, whether you just want home made pies, delicious icecream and fudge, a magnificent bunya nut sundae, cream tea, or a full three course dinner. The public toilets are clean and accessible too.
Petrol is available at Maidenwell and Kumbia. There is also a general store at Maidenwell, and an excellent pub which does pig spit roasts. Closest supermarkets are in Kingaroy and Dalby, each about 45 minutes drive away from the house. On the last Sunday of each month, enjoy the Bunya Mountains markets, on the green in front of Poppies on the Hill café.
Stay at our home, and we think you’ll agree we have a little slice of paradise here on earth.
