Things to do in and around the Bunya Mountains:
- Go for a walk through the rainforest – from 500 metres to 6 kilometres
- Enjoy a cream tea, a bunya nut sundae, a hot meal, or a wonderful salad at Poppies on the Hill café. There’s also The Bunyas café and restaurant for evening dining, with a huge whiskey bar to enjoy.
- Feed the birds at the General Store
- Visit Fishers Lookout for spectacular views across the South Burnett and the Darling Downs. Come at sunset for amazing colours!
- Enjoy walks from Russell Park – download a map of the walks and sights
- Book a Horse-drawn wagon for a tour with Allan and his beautiful Clydesdales
- On the last Sunday of every month, come to the Bunya Mountains Markets for beautiful fresh food, arts, and crafts
- Visit Coomba Falls – turn off just near the Maidenwell Trading Post
- The Kingaroy Art Gallery — free to visit gallery of local artists in the old Council Chambers (worth a look on their own), displaying top notch art which you can admire and purchase
- Drive to Kumbia, or Kingaroy through the National Park. Stop off to join walks from the main road. Watch out for the native birds, forest and Bennett’s wallabies, echidnas, and monitor lizards
- Visit one of a dozen or so wineries in the local area
Don’t forget to just breathe. Relax. Let nature come to you, and work its magic. The Bunya Mountains are the perfect place to sit, look, relax. Be still and listen to the sounds of the forest. Watch the stars. Feel the coolness of the clean mountain air.
